Frequently Asked Questions

What does someone see when they scan this?

Their phone recognises the code as a calendar event and asks if they want to add it. Tap yes and it lands in their calendar — title, start and end times, location, notes — all filled in. No typing, no copying dates from a flyer.

What if my event time or location changes after I've printed the codes?

You'd need to generate a new QR code. Because these are static codes, the event details are encoded directly into the image — there's no link to update behind the scenes. If you're printing for a physical event, wait until all the details are confirmed before doing a big print run.

Do the times adjust for different time zones?

The code stores times in UTC. Most modern smartphones will convert that to the user's local time zone automatically based on their phone settings. For international events, it's worth adding a time zone note in your event description field — just to be safe.

Which calendar apps does this work with?

It uses the iCalendar format (.ics), which is the universal standard. Apple Calendar, Google Calendar, Outlook — they all understand it. If someone's phone asks which calendar to use, they can pick whichever app they prefer.

Does the QR code expire once the event is over?

The code never expires — it's a static file with no expiry date or backend link. Someone who scans it six months after your event will still see the correct details. It's just that the event date in their calendar will be in the past, which is less useful but not broken.

Can I put a long description in the Notes field?

You can, but shorter is better. Every character adds complexity to the QR pattern. A dense pattern is harder to scan quickly, especially from a distance or in low light. Stick to one or two key pieces of information — a room number, a dress code, a reminder to bring something.

Why did the end time fill in automatically?

It defaults to one hour after your start time as a shortcut. Tap the Ends field and change it to whatever you need — half a day, a whole weekend, whatever the event calls for.

Will this work for recurring events?

Not directly — the iCalendar format supports recurring events but the current tool generates a single-occurrence event. For a recurring event, the easiest approach is to generate one code and add a note in the description: "Weekly — see series in calendar."
