Frequently Asked Questions

What should the QR code link to?

Most makers link to a care guide on their website, a Notion page, or a short YouTube video showing how to wash or maintain the item. If you don't have a web page, leave the URL blank — the tool will encode the care instructions directly into the QR code as text, so it works even without any hosting or internet connection.

Can the care card work without a website?

Yes. If you don't enter a URL, the QR code contains the care instructions as plain text. When scanned, the instructions appear directly on the phone screen — no internet needed. This is perfect for makers who don't have a website but still want to give buyers proper care guidance.

How do I attach the care card to my item?

Print the card and attach it as a swing tag with string or a small safety pin, tuck it into the packaging, or print it on an adhesive label and stick it to the base of pottery or the inside of a wooden item. For knitwear, many makers attach it like a shop tag with a small plastic loop.

Can I update the care instructions after printing?

If you linked to a web page, yes — update the page and the QR code still works. If you used the plain-text mode, the instructions are fixed in the code and you'd need to generate a new one. For items you make repeatedly, linking to a permanent care page on your site is the most flexible option.

Is this suitable for selling on Etsy or at craft fairs?

Absolutely — that's the main use case. A care card signals professionalism, reduces the chance of a buyer ruining the item through incorrect care (and leaving a bad review), and gives your brand a polished finish. Many sellers find it reduces care-related messages and returns.

Are my item details stored anywhere?

No. Everything is generated in your browser. Your item names, maker name, and care instructions are never sent to our servers — we don't have any. The QR code is created entirely on your device.

What size should I print the care card?

A typical swing tag is around 5 × 8 cm. For adhesive labels on pottery or wood, 3 × 3 cm for the QR portion is enough. Download the SVG for crisp printing at any size, and always test the scan with a phone before printing a batch.

Which materials does this tool support?

The tool includes care presets for knitwear and wool, pottery and ceramic, wood, soap and cosmetics, candles, jewellery, leather, and textiles. Each material shows the relevant care symbols. For anything not listed, choose "Other" and add your own instructions.
