How to create an item care tag

  1. Select your tag purpose: Report an issue, View manual, or Notes / history.
  2. Enter your Item Name / ID and optional location details.
  3. Specify the Destination Link (e.g. a notes page or form URL) or leave blank for a plaintext card.
  4. Optionally, add a contact and the last cared-for date.
  5. Choose a Clean (white/grey) or Dark style preset.
  6. Download as PNG or vector SVG, ready to print and affix.

Frequently Asked Questions

What should the care tag link to?

A repair form, a shared notes page, the product manual, or a shopping list for parts. When someone needs help with an item, they scan the tag and go straight to the right place — no digging for paperwork.

Can it work without a form or website?

Yes. If you leave the link empty, the QR code can carry a plain-text fallback — for example the item name and a contact — which displays on the phone after a scan. A linked page is better for longer notes, but plain text works when you just need people to know who to call.

Can I update where the tag points after printing?

If you link to a form or web page, yes — change the page and the QR keeps working. If you used the plain-text fallback, the text is fixed and you would need a new tag. For long-lived items, linking to a permanent URL you control is the most flexible.

Are item details stored by QR Code Zebra?

No. Everything is generated in your browser. Item names, links, and contacts are never sent to our servers — we do not have any. The tag is created entirely on your device.

Where should I place the tag?

Somewhere visible without moving the item — on a handle, underside edge, or storage shelf label. Use durable or laminated labels for things that get handled, and keep the QR away from curved or reflective surfaces that make scanning harder.

Does the person scanning need an app?

No. The native camera on any modern iPhone or Android reads the code. A link opens in their browser; plain text appears on screen. Handy when a family member or neighbour is helping with a repair.

Can I use this for borrowed or shared items?

Yes — great for tools, bikes, appliances, or gadgets you lend to friends and neighbours. Link the tag to return instructions, a damage-report note, or the manual so borrowers can scan for help instead of texting you.

What size should I print a care tag?

For most household items, 5–8 cm wide gives a readable heading and an easy-to-scan QR. Download the SVG for crisp printing at any size and print high-contrast (dark on white) so it scans reliably indoors.
