Frequently Asked Questions

What's the difference between this and a food safety label?

This is a recipe and serving card, not a regulatory food-safety label. If you sell food commercially, your local cottage-food or food-labelling laws may require a separate compliant label with specific information. This tool is designed for the recipe, serving suggestions, and personal touch - the "how I made this" and "how to enjoy it" side of homemade food.

What should the QR code link to?

Most people link to the full recipe on a blog, a Notion page, or a short video. You can also link to serving suggestions or a "recipes using this jar" page. If you don't have a web page, leave the URL blank and the tool encodes your note and details as text that appears directly when scanned.

Does it work without a website?

Yes. Without a URL, the QR code contains the item name, dates, and your note as plain text - readable directly on the phone with no internet needed. Perfect for a jar of jam given to a friend.

Can I print these as round jar-lid labels?

Yes - the tool offers a round layout designed for jar lids, plus a rectangular layout for side labels. Download the SVG and print onto sticker sheets, or print on paper and attach with string as a swing tag.

Is this good for selling at farmers' markets or gifting?

Both. For gifts, it adds a personal touch - the recipient can scan to see how you made it. For market sellers, it's a way to share serving ideas and build a connection with customers (just remember any legally required food-safety labelling is separate).

Are my recipe details private?

Yes. Everything is generated in your browser. Your recipes, notes, and details are never sent to our servers. The QR code is created entirely on your device.

How long do the codes last?

Forever. These are static QR codes with no expiry and no subscription. A URL-based code works as long as the linked page exists; a text-based code works permanently since the information is inside the code itself.

What size should I print the label?

Round jar-lid labels are typically 4-6 cm across; rectangular side labels around 6 × 4 cm. The QR portion should be at least 2 × 2 cm to scan reliably. Download the SVG for sharp printing at any size and test with a phone first.
